abestrus
The first time I saw this bird up close is when visiting an ostrich farm in Mindanao. I also got to touch the ostrich shells they sell. My brother’s KJ though so I wasn’t able to take one home.
Apparently, ostrich is abestrus in Filipino, which in turn was borrowed from Spanish avestruz. I don’t know this as I mostly hear Filipinos call this bird as ostrits. And yes, that is how you nativize words into Filipino (or Philippine languages in general).
By the way, if this happens to you, prepare yourself for a good time, if you know what I mean.
