The first time I saw this bird is through YouTube playthroughs of Hatoful Boyfriend (sadly, can’t remember the specific one). In that visual novel, the bird’s called Higure Anghel, real name Yoshio Akagi. Won’t spoil anything here; go play the game as it’s very interesting.

This bird is featured in the book Alpabeto ng Kalikasan under the letter “Ñ”.

Seeing the bird in real life is quite a treat. The red spot is quite striking.

It’s sad that the bird is near-threatened due to habitat loss and poaching. I hope their numbers increase while the poachers plummet to death.
