Lonely Travels: Merienda at Avida Towers Centera, Mandaluyong
tl;dr:
- Freshly-cooked sour cream fries from Potato Corner are good.
- 7-11’s Café Prima Americano is more “concentrated” than the equivalent City Café.

I ate today at Potato Corner, located at Avida Towers Centera, Mandaluyong City.
Why? Food cravings, perhaps due to what I presume was flu I recently recovered from the past two days.
Potato Corner did not have any drinks for sale. I asked the cashier if I can bring an outside drink while eating my fries in their premises, and he was kind enough to allow it and recommended getting one from the adjoining 7-11.
So I went to 7-11, and noticed the new coffee machines. There were two types: Café Prima and City Café. Wondering about the difference, I asked the cashier and she just told me that Café Prima is more expensive than City Café. I was hoping for a “deeper” answer (perhaps the former is supposedly more delicious than the latter), but then I figured that I’m not in a fancy place staffed with coffee snobs. So with indifference I punched Café Prima Americano in the machine. The coffee is already flowing when I noticed that I’ve used the wrong brand of cup; I used the City Café cup instead of the Café Prima one. The cashier just acknowledged the mistake and said the coffee was ₱50. Not a chatty one was she.
Going back to the Potato Corner with my coffee, I ate my fries there without much fanfare. I was the only one inside, and there was air conditioning. Peace and quiet.
The fries were delicious and non-greasy as usual. It’s all Sour Cream-flavoured, just as I like it. The coffee was more “concentrated” than the City Café I usually get, if that makes sense. I prefer the Prima of course, given that I don’t adulterate my coffee (i.e., black).
I left the place perhaps after 15 minutes, eating while walking back to my flat.
Overall, a simple afternoon snack, all by myself.
