This is the my very first bird video. I was intrigued by their green plumage, so I started filming.

They are residents here in my area, possibly numbering more than a dozen. I hear them around 07:00 to 09:00, chirping together with the yellow-vented bulbuls.

Interestingly, when I tried searching the internet for the common name of this bird in Filipino or other Philippine languages using its scientific name as the keyword, nothing came up. This is quite sad as the bird is said to be endemic to the northern part of the Philippines (as well as the Taiwanese islands of Lüdao and Lanyu). Asking the Birdwatch Philippines Community Facebook group yielded the following names:

  • Cebuano: bulay-og
  • Filipino: matang dulong
  • Ivatan: dachio
  • Mount Banahaw locals: kaliskis mata

Using the Filipino common name as the search keyword yielded this website: The Birds of Alabang Hills. So I think it’s just a search keyword thing, or perhaps I haven’t looked hard enough.
