This was posted on Multiply Nov. 7, 2008, 12:05 P.M.Have nothing to do? Or just want to watch something? Well, I recommend the following anime series to watch. All of them I have watched, and I do find them interesting and entertaining, so I’m gonna recommend it to you all.

[img 404]1. InuYashaAuthor: Rumiko TakahashiEnded: Yes No. of Episodes: 167

Please don’t blame me on this; this is my favorite so I put it on the top of the list. According to onemanga, “Kagome is a modern Japanese high school girl. Never the type to believe in myths and legends, her world view dramatically changes when, one day, she’s pulled out of her own time and into another! There, in Japan’s ancient past, Kagome discovers more than a few of those dusty old legends are true, and that her destiny is linked to one legendary creature in particular–the dog-like half-demon called Inuyasha! That same trick of fate also ties them both to the Shikon Jewel, or “Jewel of Four Souls.” But demons beware…the smallest shard of the Shikon Jewel can give the user unimaginable power.”
This series was made by Rumiko Takahasi, the mangaka who also made Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikkoku, and Ranma 1/2. The InuYasha anime series ended at Season 6, Episode 167 while the manga version FULLY ended at Chapter 558 on June 18, 2008 (from Wikipedia).

2. HellGirl (Jigoku Shoujo: Girl from Hell) Author: Miyuki EtōEnded: No No. of Episodes: This anime, written by the mangaka Miyuki Etō, is still ongoing, now at Season 3. The first paragraph of HellGirl’s entry in Wikipedia (under the subcategory Story), says

“Most episodes are self-contained short stories in which the series narrates the suffering of a different individual caused by one or more antagonists. A website known as “Hell Correspondence” (地獄通信, Jigoku Tsūshin?) may only be accessed at midnight by one who harbors a desire for revenge against their tormentor. Should someone submit the name of someone against whom they have a grudge, the Jigoku Shōjo (Hell Girl) will offer them a straw doll with a red string wound about its neck. If the string is pulled, she will ferry the target of the revenge straightaway to Hell, however the client agrees to a pact where those who request her intervention will also be sent to hell at the end of their natural lives.”
Note: To those familiar to the movie HellBoy, this movie bears no relation to the anime mentioned above.

[img 404]3. Mobile Suit Gundam 00Author: Ended: NoNo. of Episodes: 1st Season - , Second Season - 4 and goingMost commonly known as Gundam 00, this is a Mecha anime. Hosted by Sunrise, this is the anime for you if you are more into the likes of Voltes V and Daimos. Wikipedia says about Season 1,

“The series is set in 2307 AD. As a result of the depletion of fossil fuels, humanity had to search for a new source of power. The power was found in the form of massive arrays of solar power collectors orbiting the Earth, and supported by three orbital elevators, each one serving one of the three “power blocs” on the planet.[11]

With this nearly inexhaustible source of energy benefiting only the major powers and their allies, constant warfare erupts around the globe among minor countries for fuels and energy. Countries that once economically relied on fossil fuels have plunged into poverty. Some even believe that solar energy threatened the “promised land of God”. This chaos led to the formation of a private military organization, called Celestial Being (ソレスタルビーイング, Soresutaru Biiingu?), dedicated to eradicating war and uniting humanity through the use of four humanoid machines called Gundams.[4][6] Mobile Suit Gundam 00 follows four mobile suit pilots termed Gundam Meisters ( ガンダムマイスター, Gandamu Maisutā?), sided with Celestial Being. The main protagonist is 16-year old Setsuna F Seiei (刹那・F・セイエイ, Setsuna F Seiei?), a quiet, taciturn young man who grew up in the war-torn Kurdish Republic. He pilots the GN-001 Gundam Exia, a high mobility mobile suit effective in melee combat.[12][13] Confronting the armed resistance of the three world superpowers, the Gundam Meisters were forced to fight several opposing aces, such as Ali Al-Saachez, a mercenary who was responsible for the death of Setsuna’s and Lockon’s families.”

As I said earlier, this is the anime for you if you are into the likes of Voltes V and Daimos. However, this anime differs from them that it has an interesting plot, a futuristic approach, and side stories of patriotism and love.

4. Fate/Stay Night Author: Ended: Yes No. of Episodes: 24As Wikipedia says, “The Fate/stay nightanime is based on the visual novelvideo game Fate/stay night by Type-Moon.”Onemanga gives the anime’s synopsis: “The story takes place in an ordinary Japanese town, Fuyuki City. Hidden from society, there has been a deadly war going on in this town. Seven sorcerers known as “Masters” summon a powerful familiar called “Servants” and they all fight each other till the last one. The last one is said to attain the Holy Grail which will grant them a wish. Only a few knows when this War started and what the Holy Grail is, but the war was about to begin again this year.
The main character is Emiya Shirou, who lost his parents in a fire and was adopted by a man who called himself a sorcerer. Admiring his step father, he has been training himself to be a sorcerer. However, he had no talent and he could barely use one type of sorcery. His step father has already passed away, and today he’s a sorcerer without any skills or knowledge. He is involved in the War of the Holy Grail when he accidentally summons Saber, who is said to be the strongest servant of all.”Be warned: some scenes are bloody.

Hmmn… The Holy Grail seems familiar…

P.S. This anime also has a manga version.

[img 404]5. Special AAuthor: Maki Minami Ended: Yes No. of Episodes: 24I do believe this is the anime UP Diliman students ought to be watching. Onemanga summarizes the plot as:“Have you ever known someone who was better than you at everything you did? Hikari does. She’s known Kei since they were both six years old and he’s surpassed her at everything. Now they are the top two students in an extremely prestigious high school, with Kei holding firmly to that number one position, and Hikari is still determined to beat him, no matter what it takes.”Watching this anime gives you the inspiration to study more.

The anime was entitled Special A because (my own version of the plot) it is about 7 very talented and very smart students who developed a bond so strong that when the S.A. was dissolved due to an intruder (if you will), they struggled to revive it, even proposing to drop the school they were on. Friendship is the main theme of the anime (besides its academic setting). There are also side stories of love, and some action.
